DEVELOPMENT
PAINTINGS IN THE HERMITAGE
OF SAINT PETERSBURG.

In 1765, Catherine the Great began to collect paintings of the highest quality for political as well as aesthetic reasons. Her collection was the seed that grew into one of the greatest museums in the world. Hermitage came to play an important role in the life of Russia. Today, practically all the major European masters are presented by one or another outstanding work.
We are proud to present some of the museums best-known paintings.
